Blossoming Boost For Seaton Delaval

Seaton Delaval in Bloom have been given a welcome boost from the Lakes & Dales Co-operative following a successful Community Grant application – springing the group’s plans into life.

The £500 Community Grant will enable the group to renovate an area of grassland opposite the Lakes & Dales Store on Avenue Road creating a blossoming area in the heart of the town.

Lakes & Dales Co-operative was formed following the merger between Penrith Co-operative and Edinburgh based Scotmid Co-operative towards the end of 2013 and expanded again when Seaton Valley Co-operative joined the Society in 2015.

Groups and charities which operate or are based in communities served by a Lakes & Dales Co-operative store, are welcome to apply to the Community Grant programme, which supports hundreds of community groups and charities across the North of England and Scotland every year.

Formed in 2016, Seaton Delaval in Bloom is made up of volunteers with the aim of improving the community in and around the local area; creating a blossoming environment for residents and visitors alike to enjoy.

The group is also looking to grow further by calling on members of the local community to volunteer.

Brian Fish, Treasurer of Seaton Delaval in Bloom, said: “We are delighted to receive this funding, especially as the group is relatively new, this gives us a great start at improving the community of Seaton Delaval.”

On behalf of Lakes & Dales Co-operative, Katie Kipling, Membership & Community Officer for the region said: “The Lakes & Dales Co-operative family is delighted to award Seaton Delaval in Bloom with this much needed funding which will give the area opposite our store a new lease of life.

“As a co-operative, we have a duty to support our local communities and our Community Grant programme is just one way in which we do this.

“Being at the heart of our communities is paramount to Lakes & Dales Co-operative and seeing how each grant can really make a large difference is something we are extremely proud of.”
