High school pipers drum up support at Prestonpans re-launch

Pipers from Preston Lodge High School entertained the crowds at the launch of the new-look Prestonpans Scotmid store today (Friday 2 August) with Forth One breakfast radio host, Arlene Stuart.

Scotmid recently awarded a sponsorship to the Preston Lodge High School Pipe Band to pay for new equipment, including a new bass drum, and costumes. The pipers, who will soon be off to China to perform in the Nanning festival, collected donations from customers at today’s store re-launch to support their endeavour.

Harry Cairney, Vice President of Scotmid Co-operative Society, said: “Scotmid is very proud to be one of the sponsors for the Preston Lodge High School Pipe Band, who are a terrific band that play at many local events. I think it is brilliant that Scotmid continues to look to the community and support local projects where we can. The pipe band is absolutely taken at the sponsorship they’ve received from Scotmid. It’s another excellent example of how Scotmid is at the heart of the community.”

Lee More from the Preston Lodge High School Pipe Band said: “We are absolutely delighted to have the support of Scotmid. We have many new young players coming through so the band is growing all the time. The funding from Scotmid will help ensure we are able to provide everyone with a uniform and see the band go from strength to strength.”

Phil Cronan, Scotmid Prestonpans Store Manager said “The new-look Prestonpans Scotmid is fantastic – it’s given the store a fresher look and it looks more modern, welcoming, bright and friendly. Customers have been commenting today on how great it looks and it’s easier to find things now.”

Prestonpans Scotmid has been refurbished with a modernised design and layout to improve the shopping experience for customers. The product range has been selected to ensure customers can find real value in their new look store. The store will also have an increased range of products from local Scottish suppliers, including an in-store bakery from Goodfellow & Steven – one of Scotland’s longest established bakers.
